Men's Basketball Upended By Hawks In Non-Conference Action
Bristol, RI – The Fitchburg State Men's Basketball team dropped a 95-65 decision to the Hawks of Roger Williams this afternoon in non-conference action from the Campus Recreation Center.

How It Happened
1st half
Fitchburg State opened the contest with a 6-0 edge on buckets from senior Javon Taylor (Cambridge, MA), freshman Matthew Drayton (Boston, MA) and classmate Kamua Franks (Converse, TX) before Roger Williams went on a 10-0 run, capped by a layup by junior Sean Gogolin (Winchester, MA) to take a 16-8 lead.
The Hawks pushed the lead to 34-21 as graduate student John Ah Kao (Dumont, NJ) sank a pair from the charity stripe, but the Green and Gold answered back with Taylor notching a pair of buckets to cut the deficit to 42-27. The Falcons continued to chip away at the lead late in the half when newcomer Donald Brown Jr (Baltimore, MD) connected on back-to-back baskets to make the score 46-31 going into the break.
2nd Half
Following the intermission, Fitchburg State trimmed the lead to 49-36 as Taylor converted an and one, but Roger Williams countered when Ah Kao notched a layup (56-41). The hosts would push the lead to 63-45 on a Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, MA) jumper before the Falcons answered back with Brown Jr hitting a free-throw.
The visitors cut the lead to 85-54 on a Drayton layup, but Roger Williams countered as sophomore Phillip Sughrue (Winchester, MA) registered a bucket for the 86-54 advantage. The Green and Gold answered back with buckets from freshmen Juelez Campbell (Lexington, MA) and Tyrone Countrymon (Boston, MA) (90-59) before the Hawks secured the victory with newcomer Joey Dwyer (Pembroke, MA) netting a jumper, resulting in the 95-65 final.

- Falcons were led by Taylor with a team-leading 16 points, one rebounds and two assists
- Franks added ten points, two caroms, one block and one steal
- For the Hawks, Sughrue finished with a game-best 21 points, three boards, seven assists and two steals
