UMass Dartmouth opened the scoring early in the first period as Capodanno netted his first score of the game just 1:07 into the match. Capodanno took a feed from junior Chris Carpenter (Westford, Mass./Berkshire Academy) and tipped it in to give the Corsairs an early 1-0 advantage.

In the second period, Fitchburg State fired back with 18 shots on net and two goals. Threlkeld started the Falcon rally with his fifth score of the season at the 2:13 mark, while Canter connected for his third goal in the last two games just 4:45 later. UMass Dartmouth battled back midway through the period as Capodanno netted the equalizer off an assist from junior Matt Serino (Saugus, Mass./Avon Old Farms).

Both teams remained silent in the third period, forcing a five minute overtime. In the extra frame, Fitchburg State created an offensive boost, rifling eight shots on net, but junior goaltender Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, Mass./Springfield Junior Falcons) made all eight saves to preserve the tie for the Corsairs.

Fitchburg State pressured UMass throughout the contest, totaling 51 shots on net while holding the Corsairs to only 32. Dryjowicz-Burek picked up 49 saves in net for the Corsairs, while Vorse registered his third draw of the season with a .938 save percentage in the game.
