Greco leads Panthers to MASCAC victory with game’s lone marker

FITCHBURG, Mass. (December 9, 2010) – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team suffered a tough league setback this evening, falling to Plymouth State University, 1-0 in MASCAC action.

Plymouth State sophomore Kyle Greco (Hillside, Ill./St. Louis Bandits) scored the game’s lone marker late in the first period to lead the Panthers to their fourth victory of the season. The second-year forward took a pair of feeds from Tim Visich (Mount Please, Mich./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) and Alex Cottle (West Chester, Pa./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) at the 18:25 mark and found the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Shots were limited throughout the contest as both defenses played strong. Plymouth State limited the Falcons to only 23 attempts on net, including a minimal six targets throughout the second period, while Fitchburg State held the Panthers to only 33 shots all contest.

Sophomore goaltender Jack Astedt (Angelholm, Sweden/Rogle BK J20 Super Elite) was strong in the crease for the visitors, collecting his second shutout of the season with 23 stops on the night. Junior Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y./New York Applecore) was equally strong between the pipes, stopping 32 shots in the loss for the Falcons.

Fitchburg State (4-3-0, 2-3-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Sunday as it hosts UMass Dartmouth at 1 p.m. Plymouth State (4-1-2. 2-1-2 MASCAC) will host Westfield State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
