Caveney Named MASCAC All-Conference Player Of The Year

Caveney named MASCAC Player of the Year; Connolly Tabbed MASCAC Rookie of the Year

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 27, 2013) – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team named one player to the 2012-13 MASCAC All-Conference teams as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Joseph Caveney (Fitchburg, Mass./New England Jr. Huskies) led all honorees, being tabbed the MASCAC’s Ice Hockey Player of the Year in addition to his first team All-Conference honor, while freshman Ryan Connolly (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./New York Applecore) was selected as the MASCAC’s Ice Hockey Rookie of the Year.

Caveney collects his first Player of the Year accolade after witnessing a breakout season for the Falcons ice hockey squad. The senior forward led the team and league in scoring with 47 points on 17 markers and 30 assists, while also currently leading the nation in scoring among division three schools, averaging 1.74 points per contest.

Connolly also collects his first post-season accolade after registering a stellar rookie campaign. The first year Falcon finished tied for the team lead in goals scored with 17, while ranking third on the team in scoring with 26 points on 17 scores and nine helpers. The rookie forward wrapped the season, finishing 10th in the league in scoring.

The Fitchburg State ice hockey team concluded the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 11-14-2 and a 9-8-1 mark in the MASCAC.
