Falcon Duo Sweeps MASCAC Weekly Awards

Connolly tabbed MASCAC Player of the Week; Wolcott named Goalie of the Week

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 4, 2013) – Freshman Ryan Connolly (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./New York Applecore) and junior Randy Wolcott (East Haven, Conn./Wisconsin-Stevens Point) swept the MASCAC’s Ice Hockey weekly awards this week as announced by the conference office Sunday afternoon.

Connolly earns his first weekly honor of the 2012-13 campaign, after being named MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week. The first year forward tallied eight points on six goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. Connolly notched four markers and two helpers in Fitchburg State’s 10-1 victory over Framingham State on Thursday before posting a pair of scores in the Falcons 5-1 win against MASCAC rival Salem State on Saturday afternoon.

In net, Wolcott earned his fourth weekly honor of the season, after being named MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week. The junior goaltender totaled 60 saves with a 1.13 goals against average and a .968 save percentage on the week. Wolcott registered 22 saves in a 10-1 win against Framingham State on Thursday evening, before turning aside 38 of 39 shots in 5-1 victory over Salem State on Saturday.

The Fitchburg State ice hockey team (8-10-2, 7-6-1 MASCAC) will be back in action on Thursday as it visits Worcester State University for a contest starting at 5:30 p.m.
