Fitchburg State Blanks Framingham State, 4-0

Falanga registers two points in Falcons MASCAC victory

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.– The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period to propel them to a 4-0 victory on the road over Framingham State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at Loring Arena.

After playing a majority of the first period without a penalty or score the Rams were called for a slash at 18:26. Coming out of the break the Falcons took advantage when Ryan Connolly scored a power play goal just 17 seconds into the second period for the 1-0 adavantage. Classmate John Celli and senior Craig Halpin were credited with assists on the score.

Just ten seconds later the Falcons extended the lead (2-0) when Jon Johannesson  scored on a pass from Paul Falanga before Falanga tallied an unassisted marker with just under two minutes remaining in the stanza for the 3-0 margin going into the final period of play.

In the final frame, the Green and Gold secured the victory as sophomore forward Cameron Snyder connected on his team-leading fourth goal of the season with an empty netter with 1:02 remaining the contest, resulting in the 4-0 final.

Throughout the contest, Framingham State held a 38-27 advantage in shots, while the Falcons went 1-for-4 on the power play. Between the pipes, senior Ryan Wysocki collected 38 saves for Fitchburg State in the en-route to the shutout victory, while sophomore Alessio Muggli made 23 saves in 58:19 minutes of action for the Rams.

Fitchburg State (1-4-2, 1-2-1 MASCAC) returns to action next Saturday as they take on Southern New Hampshire University in opening round action of the 2014 PAL/Stovepipe Tournament at 4:30 p.m. Framingham State (1-4-1, 1-3-1 MASCAC) will visit New England College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
