Snyder tallies tallies three points in Falcons conference victory
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Cameron Snyder scored two goals and added an assist to lead Fitchburg State to a 6-2 win over Westfield State in MASCAC Ice hockey on Thursday night at Amelia Park.
Fitchburg led 2-0 at the end of the first period. Snyder's goal 3:36 into the second period gave Fitchburg a 3-0 lead and proved to be the game winner.
Westfield showed a chance to get back into the contest with Kyllian Kirkwood netting a shorthanded goal at the 14:26 mark of the third period, but Fitchburg built the lead back to 3-1 when Mike Morrison tallied on the power play off of a centering pass from Evan Byrnes found Morrison in the slot.
Westfield again cut the lead back to two goals at 4-2, as freshman Cory Wilson netted a nice goal off a centering pass from TJ Powers deep in the right corner, with Wilson stick handling the puck into the left side just 1:58 into the third period.
Fitchburg opened the game up late with goals from Nat Rojas and Craig Halpin in the final six minutes.
The Falcons outshot Westfield 43-35. Ryan Wysocki made 33 saves for Fitchburg (7-7-2, 4-4-1 MASCAC).
Westfield got 37 saves from Ian Perrier in goal. The Owls fall to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in the MASCAC.
Fitchburg State returns to action on Saturday as they host Framingham State University at 5:00 pm.
