Falcons Rally Past Leopards, 2-1

Joscelyn nets first collegiate marker in non-conference victory

Everett, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University ice hockey team defeated the Leopards of Wentworth Institute, 2-1 in non-conference action this afternoon at the Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.

How It Happened

Wentworth opened the scoring at the 6:43 mark as sophomore CJ Grinnell (Burlington, Mass.) gathered a feed from junior Jonny Spada (Glen Rock, N.J.) and found the back of the net for his third tally on the year for the 1-0 advantage.

Fitchburg State knotted the score with just 26 second remaining in the first period when sophomore Alexander Joscelyn (Bow, N.H.) potted his first collegiate tally of an assist from junior Michael Fretz (Seattle, Wash.) to make the score 1-1 after one period of play.

Following a scoreless second frame, the Falcons broke the 1-1 stalemate at the 17:18 mark of the third period as junior Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) received a pass from sophomore Kyle Hillick (Byfield, Mass.) and junior Josh Victor (Killeen, Tex.) and buried a shot into the net for his seventh tally of the season, resulting in the 2-1 final.

Inside the Numbers

27th meeting between the two schools in ice hockey with the Falcons 9-14-4 all-time when taking on the Leopard.

Wentworth had won four of the previous five matchups against Fitchburg State with the Falcons coming away with a 7-2 triumph in the last meeting (10/31/15).

Leopards held a 39-24 advantage in shots.

Fitchburg State finished 0-for-4 on the power-play, while Wentworth went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

Freshman goaltender Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) stopped 38 of the 39 shots he faced for Fitchburg State

Wentworth senior Ryan Hubbard (West Roxbury, Mass.) finished with 22 saves in the setback.

Sophomore forward Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn.) registered a team-best six shots for the Falcons.
