Falcons Clip Rams, 6-4

Perry and Gordon score two goals each in key MASCAC victory

Framingham, Mass. – Freshman forward Kevin Perry (Hull, Mass.) and senior forward James Gordon (Hingham, Mass.) tallied two goals each as the Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Rams of Framingham State University, 6-4 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at the Loring Arena.

How It Happened

Framingham State opened the scoring just 2:05 into the first period when freshman Brandon Hamner (Waltham, Mass.) found the back of the net for his fourth marker on the year for the 1-0 margin before the Falcons knotted the score (1-1) on junior Josh Victor's (Killeen, Tex.) first collegiate tally.

In the second frame, the Green and Gold took a 3-1 advantage as Perry connected on back-to-back tallies in a four minute span before the Rams answered back on senior Tyler Colacchio's (Bellingham, Mass.) second goal on the year.

In the final period of play, Framingham State retied the contest (4-4) when freshman Ryan Paul (Morgan, Vt.) struck for his second score of the season off an assist from classmate Matt Siegel (Syracuse, N.Y.). But Fitchburg State quickly regained the lead for good with just under seven minutes to play in regulation as Gordon potted his fifth goal of the 2017-18 campaign.

The Green and Gold added an insurance marker at the 19:37 mark as Gordon received a feed from sophomore Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn.) and deposited the puck into the empty net, resulting in the 6-4 final.

58th meeting between the two schools in ice hockey with the Falcons 46-8-4 all-time when taking on the Rams.

Fitchburg State has won the last nine matchups against Framingham State, including a 4-0 decision earlier this season (11/16/17).

Rams held a narrow 42-37 margin in shots.

Freshman goaltender Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) stopped 38 shots for the Falcons in the complete game effort

Framingham State junior Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, Penn.) finished with 35 saves in the setback.

Junior forward Ryan McDonough (Dorchester, Mass.) registered a team-best six shots for the Rams.
