Fitchburg State to Face Nichols in NCAA DIII First Round

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Fitchburg State University men's ice hockey team will face Nichols College on Saturday March 10th in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Levy Rink in Harrisville, RI as announced by the NCAA Committee on Monday morning. Game time is 7:00 PM.

Tickets for the event will go on sale beginning Wednesday at 10 a.m. on nicholsathletics.com. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $4 for students, and $3 for children under 12.

Fitchburg State (18-6-3) won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title this past Saturday with a 2-0 win over UMass Dartmouth to earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament field. The Falcons last captured the conference title in 2010-11.

Nichols College (17-8-3) won the Commonwealth Coast Conference with an 8-3 victory over University of New England, it was the third conference championship in five years for the Bison.

Saturday's meeting will mark the 60th all-time meeting between these two longstanding Worcester-area rivals and first since March 4, 2009 when they met in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Semifinals, a 4-2 win by the Bison. The Falcons lead the series 41-15-3, however the Bison have won the last three and are 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face Salve Regina on Saturday, March 17th.
