Falcons Edged By Corsairs, 3-2 (OT)

New Bedford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at the Hetland Arena.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 11:43 mark of the first period as junior forward Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) gathered a feed from sophomore Sascha Figi (Kloten, Switzerland) and senior Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) and found the back of the net for his third score of the season for the 1-0 lead.

UMass Dartmouth knotted the score (1-1) with roughly three and half minutes left in the opening frame when sophomore Nicholas Short (Los Angeles Calif.) connected on his fourth goal on the year.

The Corsairs grabbed the lead midway through the middle stanza as Short received a pass from senior Mason Nichols (Oviedo, Fla.) and freshman Jimmy Pelton (Syracuse, N.Y.) and struck for his second score of the contest for the 2-1 lead.

The Green and Gold tied up the game (2-2) at the 12:17 mark of the third period when Figi connected on his team-leading 14th tally of the 2018-19 campaign to force overtime. In the extra frame, UMass Dartmouth secured the victory with 1:07 left as sophomore Eric Bolden (Oswego, Ill.) netted his fourth goal of the season, resulting in the 3-2 final.
