Falcons Fall To Leopards, 7-5

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team dropped a 7-5 decision to the Leopards of Wentworth Institute this evening in non-conference action from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead at the 14:13 mark of the first period as senior Patrick Germain (Auburn, Mass.) collected a feed from juniors Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn.) and Joshua Suboyu (Bradley Beach, N.J.) and connected on his second tally of the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Falcons doubled their margin (2-0) roughly three minutes into the second period when sophomore Sascha Figi (Kloten, Switzerland) deposited a shot inside the near post for his team-leading 15th goal on the year.

Wentworth answered 5:45 into the frame as junior Connor Beaudet (Buffalo, N.Y.) gathered a feed from classmate Drew DiGeronimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) and sophomore Dante Flori (Waltham, Mass.) and found the back of the net for his second tally of the season before junior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) added his eighth of the season for the Leopards 19 seconds later to knot the score at 2-2.

The Green and Gold regained the lead at the 13:09 mark as Figi netted his second goal of the contest off assists from seniors Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) and Connor McPherson (Clovis, Calif.) for the 3-2 edge. Wentworth retied the game (3-3) with five minutes remaining in the frame when senior Jonny Spada (Glen Rock, N.J.) posted his first score of the 2018-19 season.

The Leopards grabbed the lead late in the stanza when Gorodetsky collected his second marker on the day off an assist from senior Paul Filippone III (Cranston, R.I.) to make the score 4-3.

Wentworth upped its advantage (5-3) early in the third period as Gorodetsky completed the hat trick, wristing a shot into the right side of the net for his tenth marker on the year, resulting in the 7-5 final.
