How It Happened

Worcester State opened the scoring at the 13:02 mark of the first period as sophomore forward Matthew Manning (Novi, Mich.) gathered a feed from classmate Jake Karelas (Melrose, Mass.) and found the back of the net for his ninth tally of the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Lancers double their margin (2-0) four minutes into the middle stanza when sophomore forward Ryan James (Katy, Tex.) put home a rebound of a shot by classmate Kyle Hayter (Helena, Mont.) for his third marker on the year.

Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 7:10 mark as senior Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) buried a shot into the back the net for his tenth goal on the season off assists from freshman Ryan Murphy (Wayzata, Minn.) and sophomore Brian Glover (Baldwinville, Mass.) before Worcester State responded late in the frame when sophomore Tim Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) tallied a power-play marker for his third goal of the 2018-19 campaign to make the score 3-1.

The Green and Gold answered back midway through the final period of play as senior Ricky Kramer (Barnstead, N.H.) deposited a shot inside the far post for his tenth goal of the year on assists from junior Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore Sascha Figi (Kloten, Switzerland) to cut the lead to 3-2.
