DiNicola Named 2018-19 Joe Concannon Award Semifinalist

Wolcott, Conn. native selected as one of 25 semifinalist

Boston, Mass. – Fitchburg State senior Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) was recently selected as a semifinalist for the 19th annual Joe Concannon Award as announced by the Greater Gridiron Club of Greater Boston president Chris Clements on Thursday morning.

This season, Nick ranks second the team in points with 34 and goals with ten, while currently leading the team in assist with 24 to go along with two power-play tallies and three game winning goals in 22 games thus far for the Green and Gold.

The Joe Concannon Award was established in 2001 shortly after the passing of longtime writer for The Boston Globe, who had a great passion for the game of college hockey, while always advocating strongly for amateur athletes.

Eighteen teams are represented in this year's list of candidates that include eight players for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), seven from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), six from the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), three from the Massachusett State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and one form the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10).

Nine of the 2018-19 nominees were semifinalists a year ago. They are UNE forwards Ryan Bloom and Brady Flearent, Curry forward Zachary White, UMB defenseman Nick Albano and forward Nolan Redler, Trinity defenseman Liam Feeney, Fitchburg State forward Nick DiNicola, Western New England forward Matt O'Dea and Worcester State forward Mike Moran.

The Joe Concannon Award is presented annually to the best American-born NCAA Division II/III college hockey player in New England.

The Fitchburg State ice hockey team (10-10-2, 7-6-2 MASCAC) returns to action next Thursday, February 14th as they travel to Salem State to take on the Vikings for a MASCAC tilt, starting at 7:00 PM.
