Falcons Rebound Over Amcats, 5-2

Fortin, Wolford and Kusior collect first collegiate scores for Fitchburg State in non-conference victory

Auburn, Mass. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the AMCATS of Anna Maria College, 5-2 this evening in non-conference action from the Horgan Arena.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring 4:54 into the first period as freshman Hunter Fortin (Westerville, Ohio) gathered a feed from classmates Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) and Wyatt Wilmshurst (Massena, N.Y.), who connected on his first collegiate tally for the 1-0 edge.

The Falcons doubled their advantage roughly one minute later when senior Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn.) deposited a shot inside the near post for his first goal on the season on assists from sophomore Kyle Klatt (Cloquet, Minn.) and junior Brian Glover (Baldwinville, Mass.) to make the score 2-0.

In the second period, the Green and Gold upped its lead (3-0) 2:47 into the middle stanza with newcomer Egan Wolford (San Jose, Calif.) receiving a pass from sophomore Jordin Holmes (Willow Grove, Penn.) and freshman Adam Kusior (Tecumseh, Ont.) and blasted a shot into the back of the net for his first collegiate marker.

Anna Maria cut the deficit to 3-1 late in the frame as freshman Michael Padgeon (Sellersville, Penn.) netted his second goal on the year off assists from sophomores Jack Sitzman (Redoondo Beach, Calif.) and Sam Cyr-Ledoux (Montreal, Que.).

In the final period of play, the AMCATS made it a one goal game 7:31 into the period when Sitzman settled a feed from sophomore Quinn Tucker (Hancock, N.H.) and found the back of net for his first score of the 2019-20 campaign to make the score 3-2.

Fitchburg State answered back, scoring a back-to-back marker in the span of 28 seconds with senior Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) netting his second goal of the year at the 8:56 mark, before Kusior notched his first career score 28 seconds later, resulting in the 5-2 final.
