Fitchburg, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-0 decision to the Jumbos of Tufts University in the consolation game of the 57th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament hosted by UMass Boston.

How It Happened

Tufts notched the game's first goal at the 6:31 mark. Junior Cam Newton (Ann Arbor, Mich.) fired a wrist shot from the blueline that found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Classmate Fisher Shea (Culver, Ind.) had the assist off the faceoff win.

The Jumbos doubled the lead (2-0) when Harrison Bazianos (Glenview, Ill.) finished off a breakaway goal, tucking the pass from Tyler Sedlak (Wyckoff, NJ) past Falcons' netminder Matthew Radder (West Seneca, NY).

Both teams had numerous scoring chances with each team posting 18 shots on goal. The Green and Gold's best chance came off the stick of junior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, Mass.) who rang it off the post on a shot in close.

Radder was stellar in net for Fitchburg State making several key saves to start the second period to keep the game close. However, Turfs added a pair of goals from newcomer Brendan Fennell (Melrose, Mass.) including a short-handed tally to extend the lead to 4-0 after two periods.

Tufts finished out the game with two goals in the third period resulting in the 6-0 final.
