Hockey Draws with MCLA to Open MASCAC Play

NORTH ADAMS, MA: Fitchburg State men's hockey finished in a tie with newly formed MCLA this evening in MASCAC action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 11/2/23

- Score: Fitchburg 2. MCLA 2

- Records: Fitchburg (0-1-1, 0-0-1 MASCAC), MCLA (0-0-1, 0-0-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcons got things going in the first period on an unassisted Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) goal ten minutes in. The Trailblazers would knot it back up at 1-1 just two minutes later when Cody White found Connor Nagy for his first goal of the season.

- Fitchburg would go back on top late in the second period on a power play goal by Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, Que). Oliver Cookson (Sheffield, MA) was credited with the assist.

- MCLA would again tie it up just five minutes into the third period. Addam Brunner would beat the Falcon tender after receiving a pass from Nagy. Overtime would see both teams be scoreless, making the game end in a 2-2 draw.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Mathew Gover finished the game with an impressive 41 saves. Max Macchioni (N. Kingstown, RI) made 19 saves in net for Fitchburg.

-  Shots: Fitchburg 43, MCLA 21

-  Power Plays: Fitchburg was 1-for-5, MCLA was 0-for-4
