Ice Hockey Rallies Past Lancers In MASCAC Action

Imala nets pair of goals for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, MA. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team registered a 4-3 victory over the Lancers of Worcester State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Worcester State opened the scoring 1:00 minute into the first period as sophomore Anders Grongstad (Royal Oak, MI) collected a feed from graduate student Brendan Ronan (Saugus, MA) and struck for his fourth marker on the season for the 1-0 edge.

The Lancers doubled their advantage at the 12:39 mark when junior Maxwell Tucker (Kalamazoo, MI) deposited a shot inside the left post for his first goal of the 2023-24 campaign to make the score 2-0.

In the middle stanza, Worcester State pushed the lead to 3-0 14 seconds into the stanza with Ronan settling a pass from junior Brigham Neuhold (Edmond, OK) and slipping a shot inside the near post for his first score of the year.

Fitchburg State answered at the 12:03 mark with freshman Adam Nedelka (Srch, Czech Republic) collected a rebound shot off the stick of senior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, MA) and tucked a shot into the right side of the net for his second tally of the year to trim the lead to 3-1.

The Falcons quickly cut into the deficit again roughly one minute later when newcomer Michael Imala (Oak Lawn, IL) received a feed from junior Jack Johansen (Milford, NH) and slipped a shot into the back of the net for his second score of the season to make the score 3-2.

In the third period of play, the Green and Gold knotted the score at 3-3 53 seconds into the frame with Imala blasting a shot into the left side of the net for his second tally of the contest with assists from junior Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, MA) and sophomore Nolan Sargent (Littleton, CO).

The hosts grabbed the lead three minutes later when junior Corey Tumenas (Leominster, MA) buried a shot into the net for his first goal of the season with an assist from freshman Hunter Dunn ( Douglas, MA) to give Fitchburg State a 4-3 margin.
