Ice Hockey Clips Owls In Overtime

Gignac nets game winner for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Owls of Westfield State University, 3-2 in overtime this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 7:49 mark of the first frame as junior Toivo Kramer (New York, NY) settled a feed from sophomore Jeremy Maillet (Leominster, MA)) and deposited a shot inside the near post for his second tally of the season for the 1-0 edge.

In the middle stanza, Westfield State knotted the score at 1-1 with just over minutes left in the period when sophomore Ryan O'Halloran (Burlington, MA) connected on his third marker of the year with an assist from classmate Colin Roe (Hyde Park, MA).

The Falcons regained the lead early in the third period with freshman Jackson Collins (Wake Forest, NC) blasting a shot inside the lower left corner for his first collegiate tally to make the score 2-1.

The Owls retied the contest (2-2) at the 12:55 mark as freshman Andreas Fleutot (Megeve, France) tucked a shot into the right side of the net for his second goal of the 2023-24 campaign.

In the overtime period, the Green and Gold secured the victory with 44 seconds left in the frame when graduate student Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, Que) ripped a shot into the net for his third score on the year with freshman Adam Nedelka (Szch, Czech Republic) and Kramer assisting on the play, resulting in the 3-2 final.
