Fuller Reaches 600 Wins After Downing MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, MA: Fitchburg State ice hockey took down MCLA in MASCAC action this evening. This win marks the 600th career win for Head Coach Dean Fuller, making him just the third DIII coach to reach that milestone.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/27/24

- Score: Fitchburg 5, MCLA 2

- Records: Fitchburg (10-7-2, 9-4-2 MASCAC), MCLA (3-15-1, 1-13-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  MCLA jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first period and the beginning of the second. The Trailblazers found the back of the net 18:21 into the first on a power play goal by Cade Herrera. He would follow that up with his second of the game and last goal for his team 3:33 into the second.

- The Falcons would then rip four straight to end the second period. Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, MA) would get Fitchburg on the board ten minutes in on a powerplay goal. Oliver Cookson (Sheffield, MA), Toivo Kramer (New York, NY), and Trenton Skaggs (Oconomowoc, WI) would round out the period. Alexandre Bauvais (Meudon, France) assisted on three of the four goals in the period.

- The final period would conclude with the Falcons finding the empty net to get the 5-2 final. Kristopher Zapata (Cherry Hill, NJ) would be the beneficiary of the empty net opportunity.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) got the win (4-2) after making 26 saves. Mathew Gover would get tagged with the loss (2-12-1) after making 51 saves.

-  Shots: Fitchburg 56, MCLA 28

-  Penalty Minutes: MCLA 12 minutes on 6 infractions. Fitchburg 6 minutes on 3 infractions.
