Falcons register third consecutive victory with Bolam's three points

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 21, 2009) - Sophomore Danny Bolam (Fletcher, Vt./BFA Airfax) registered a game-high three points to lead Fitchburg State past Becker College, 2-1 in non-conference action this evening.

Sophomore Danny Bolam notched three
points to lead Fitchburg State to its
third consecutive victory.

The Falcons got on the board first as freshman Richie Harvey (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) connected for his first collegiate goal in the 13th minute of the contest. The freshman midfielder stood strong in the box, taking Bolam's assist from deep in the corner and slipping it past Becker goalkeeper Aaron Hill (Ladner/BC Delta) to give Fitchburg State a 1-0 advantage.

Becker knotted the score moments later, transitioning up-field and reaping the rewards of an own goal in the 15th minute, but Fitchburg State regained its one goal lead with a marker early in the second half. Bolam struck again, lacing his fourth goal of the season from the right channel of the field. His shot found the top-corner of the net from ten yard outs, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead.

Becker came within inches of tying the contest as senior Snjezan Telebak (Chicago, Ill./Morton West) received a penalty kick attempt in the 76th minute. Telebak drew his shot to Falcon goaltender Alex Ivanov's (Carlisle, Mass./Carlisle) right side, but the first-year net-minder stabbed the attempt with a diving save to keep Fitchburg State up by one.

Fitchburg State possessed an 18-15 advantage in shots, while Becker controlled the corner kicks with a 5-1 lead. In his first collegiate start, Ivanov registered six saves for the Falcons, while Hill stopped eight shots for the Hawks.

Fitchburg State (5-7-2, 1-3-1 MASCAC) will be in action again on Saturday as it visits MCLA at 1 p.m. Becker (2-14-1, 1-3-0 NECC) will travel to Newbury College on Sunday at 12 p.m.
