Bridgewater State Shoots Past Fitchburg State, 4-2

Pacini and Mascary net scores in Falcons setback

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (October 4, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's soccer team opened the second half with two consecutive scores, but Bridgewater State held off the Falcons comeback, taking a 4-2 victory in MASCAC action this afternoon.

Bridgewater State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as Tucker Fairbanks (Plympton, Mass./Silver Lake), Chris Swindell (Milford, Mass./Milford) and Matt Daniels (S. Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) connected for the Bears in the first half. Fairbanks opened the scoring with his first marker of the year at the 7:47 mark , before Swindell found the back of the net just seven minutes later. Daniels capped the Bears first half scoring in the 25th minute, netting his third goal of the year off a Jon Sampson (Plympton, Mass./Silver Lake) assist.

In the second half, Fitchburg State came out soaring, tallying two consecutive goals to cut the Bridgewater State lead to 3-2. Junior Robbie Pacini (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) took a Jonathan Diaz-Atto (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) dish and put the Falcons on the board first with his first score of the season, while sophomore Kevin Mascary (N. Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) connected just 1:25 later with an unassisted tally.

Bridgewater State held off the Fitchburg State comeback as Swindell sealed the Bears victory with his second goal of the game in the 67th minute. The Falcons transitioned well in the second half, posting six shots in the half but senior keeper Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, Mass./East Longmeadow) stopped three Falcons shots in the frame to clinch the win.

The Bears held a 20-9 advantage in total shots with a commanding 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Senior keeper Matt Carey (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) totaled ten saves in goal for the Falcons, while Seifert posted three saves for the Bears.

Fitchburg State (1-6-2, 0-2-1 MASCAC) will be in action again on Tuesday as it hosts Johnson and Wales University at 7 p.m. Bridgewater State (5-4-1, 3-0-0 MASCAC) will travel to Johnson and Wales on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
