WORCESTER, Mass. (September 23, 2009) - Senior Matt Carey (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) collected nine saves this evening but Fitchburg State fell to Clark University, 2-0 in non-conference action.
Clark netted a pair of goals early in the first half and enjoyed a 19-5 advantage in shots as the Cougars clinched their fifth victory of the season. Sophomore Kenny Howard (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) put Clark on top early in the contest, tallying his first score of the season just 1:50 into the game, while Gianluca Ranallo (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) padded the Cougar lead with a marker in the 21st minute.
Fitchburg State was silenced all game as Clark limited the Falcons to only one shot on target. Junior Robbie Pacini (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) registered the lone Falcon shot in the second half but Cougar goalkeeper, freshman Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass./Tantasqua) shunned it way to earn the complete game victory.
Fitchburg State (1-4-2, 0-0-1 MASCAC) will be in action again on Saturday as it hosts Salem State at 3:30 p.m. Clark (5-2-0, 0-1-1 NEWMAC) will travel to MIT on Saturday at 4 p.m.
