Daniel Webster Slips Past Fitchburg State, 2-1 (OT)

Ventura posts team-leading seventh marker of the season in non-conference contest

NASHUA, N.H. (October 26, 2010) – Junior Alex Jackson (Kent, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) netted two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead Daniel Webster College to a 2-1 non-conference victory over Fitchburg State University this evening.

Fitchburg State opened the contest firing, netting the first goal of the contest just four minutes into the match. Senior Lionso Ventura (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) gave the Falcons the early edge with his team-leading seventh marker of the season as he ricocheted a shot off the goalpost and past Daniel Webster goalkeeper Michael Ferragamo (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill).

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Daniel Webster evened the score in the 54th minute of the match  as Jackson blasted a penalty shot past Fitchburg State goalkeeper, senior Alex Ivanov (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) . The score proved to be the lone marker of the second period, forcing the contest to an overtime period.

Just three minutes into the sudden-death overtime period, Jackson lifted the Eagles to their ninth victory of the season as he rocketed his second score of the game into the corner of the goal from 25 yards out.

The Eagles outshot the Falcons 16-8 in the contest, including 9-2 in the second period. Ivanov led Fitchburg State between the pipes, posting seven saves in the complete game effort, while Ferragamo totaled two saves for Daniel Webster.

Fitchburg State (3-12-0, 1-5-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Thursday as it hosts Rivier College at 7 p.m. (Daniel Webster (9-5-1, 4-2-0 NECC) will host Elms College on Saturday at 12 p.m.
