Framingham State Shoots Over Fitchburg State, 4-0
Ivanov stops five in Falcons MASCAC defeat
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (October 23, 2010) – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team suffered its 11th defeat of the season after falling to Framingham State University, 4-0 in MASCAC action this afternoon. With the victory, the Rams improved to 10-6-0 overall with a 4-2-0 mark in the MASCAC, while Falcons fall to 3-11-0 overall and 1-5-0 in the conference.

Framingham State notched first goal of the game and the eventual game-winner early in the contest as junior Richie Green (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) sent a cross to senior Sean Austin (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) who knocked it home in the eight minute. The marker was Austin's second score of the season, giving the Rams the early 1-0 advantage.
The Rams doubled their lead (2-0) just three minutes later as junior Peter Maranto (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) scored off an assist from senior forward Jason Silva. Framingham State capped its first half scoring with a successful penalty kick from Silva, before adding their fourth and final marker in the 59th minute with a score from sophomore Jepherson Cardoso (Framingham, Mass./Framingham).
Fitchburg State was held at bay for much of the contest as Framingham outshot the Falcons, 21-5 for the game, including a 10-3 margin in the second half. Ram goalkeeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) picked up his fifth shutout win of the season making four saves, while senior Alex Ivanov (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) made five saves for the Falcons.
Fitchburg State (3-11-0, 1-5-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Tuesday as it travels to Daniel Webster College at 3:30 p.m. Framingham State (10-6-0, 4-2-0 MASCAC) will host Amherst College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
