Fitchburg State Shuts Down Rivier, 8-1

Pacini joins NCAA Division III record books in Falcons fourth victory of the year

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 28, 2010) – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team registered a season-high eight goals as it cruised to an 8-1 non-conference victory over Rivier College this evening.

ROBBIE PACINI

Fitchburg State broke loose for seven unanswered goals in the first half led by the stellar play of senior Robbie Pacini (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham). Pacini etched his name in the NCAA Division III record books, becoming the fastest player to register four goals in a period. The senior midfielder surpassed Patrick Floeck's (Trinity - Texas, 2008), previous record of four in a span of 5:26 with his own mark of four tallies in 3:46.

In addition to Pacini's performance, senior Lionso Ventura (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) and freshman Carmen Bordonaro (Saugus, Mass./Saugus) added to the mix with one score apiece. Ventura opened Fitchburg State's scoring parade with his team-leading eighth marker of the season, while Bordonaro capped the first half scoring in the 45th minute with his second goal of the year.

In the second half, Rivier got on the scoreboard early with an unassisted goal by Chris Nugent (Camberley, England/Frogmore) just 0:34 into the period, but Fitchburg State ended any dramatic comeback as Bordonaro posted his second tally of the contest in the 71st minute. Junior Eddie Hearn (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) set up the Falcons last score of the match with a blast on target, but Bordonaro cleaned up the loose ball rebound and slipped it past goalkeeper Matt St. Peter (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) for the 8-1 victory.

Fitchburg State dominated the tempo of the contest, earning a commanding 46-18 advantage in shots, including a 31-5 margin in the first half alone. Sophomore Evan DeAmicis (Townsend, Mass./North MIddlesex) notched the complete game victory for the Falcons, stopping seven shots throughout the match, while senior John Jarvis (Henniker, N.H./Bellows Free Academy) stopped 11 shots in one half of work for the Raiders.

Fitchburg State (4-12-0, 1-5-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts Worcester State at 12 p.m. Rivier (3-15-0, 1-8-0 GNAC) concludes its 2010 campaign this evening.
