Fitchburg State Shoots Past Rivier, 7-0

Seven different Falcons net goals in third victory of the season

NASHUA, N.H. (October 12, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team used a balanced attack as seven players netted goals in the Falcons 7-0 non-conference victory over Rivier College this evening.

Senior Lionso Ventura (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) and sophomore Chris Kleindl (Tokyo, Japan/American School) led the way with three points apiece (1 goal, 1 assist), while Kenneth Kelly (Marstons Mills, Mass./Barnstable), Carmen Bordonaro (Saugus, Mass./Saugus), Jason Pereira (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington), Calvin La Rose (Rutland, Mass./Bay Path) and Kevin Mascary (N. Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) all added markers.

Ventura scored the only goal the Falcons would need early in the first period, touching for his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 15th minute. Kleindl followed suit just three minutes later, taking a Ventura feed and depositing for his fourth goal of the year, while Kelly capped the first half scoring in the 22nd minute with his first goal of the season.

In the second half, Fitchburg State tacked on four more goals to cruise to its 7-0 victory. Bordonaro ignited the scoring party with a tally just 1:09 into the period before Pereira gave the Falcons a 5-0 cushion with a score off a Kleindl helper. Mascary and La Rose rounded out the Falcons' scorers with back-to-back goals by the 70th minute of play.

For the contest, Fitchburg State dominated play, amassing a landslide advantage in shots with a 46-2 margin, including 24 targets on net and six corner kicks. The Falcons registered 23 attempts in each half, while limiting the Raiders to only a single shot in both frames.

Between the pipes, sophomore Aidan Hanratty (E. Bridgewater, Mass./E. Bridgewater) worked the first half for Fitchburg State, earning one save over the 45 minutes, while senior Patrick Harper (Southwick, Mass./Southwick-Tolland) went untested in his second half effort.  

Fitchburg State (3-9-1, 1-3-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to MCLA at 1 p.m. Rivier (0-11, 0-8 NAC) will host Anna Maria College on Saturday at 12 p.m.
