Fitchburg State Blanks Becker, 3-0

Falcons collect first victory of the season behind shutout effort from Hanratty

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 8, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team registered its first victory of the season, defeating Becker College, 3-0 in a non-conference matchup at Alumni Field.

Fitchburg State touched for its first goal of the game in the 28th minute when Carmen Bordonaro (Saugus, Mass./Saugus) scored on a feed from James David (Haverhill, Mass). Freshman Francisco Lemus (Everett, Mass./Everett) extended the Falcons lead on an unassisted goal in the 38th minute before an own goal by the Hawks completed the scoring for the match.

The Hawks offense struggled on the day managing only two shots on goal. Tim MacDonald (Holden, Mass.) made eight saves in a losing effort.

For the contest, Fitchburg State out-shot Becker 12-2 while posting a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) made one save in the complete game effort for the Falcons.

Fitchburg State (1-2-1, 0-0-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as it hosts UMass Boston at 7 p.m. Becker (1-3-0, 0-0-0 NECC) will host Nichols College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
