Hanratty stops six shots in Falcons MASCAC loss to the Bucs

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. (September 29, 2012) – Senior Derek Young's (Falmouth, Mass.) penalty kick conversion in the 24th minute of play held up as the game-winner and backed a five-save effort in goal from fellow senior Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) to lift Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 MASCAC victory over the Fitchburg State men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon.

After a foul in the penalty area, Derek Young converted his attempt to the right of the cage to give the host Buccaneers (6-3-1, 1-2 MASCAC) the only marker they would need. Brett Young made that hold up with three second half stops to record his fifth shutout victory of the season and sixth of his career for Massachusetts Maritime.

Sophomore Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) made six stops in net for the Falcons (2-7-1, 0-3 MASCAC), as the Buccaneers outshot Fitchburg State by a 14-7 margin for the contest (11-3 in the opening 45 minutes of play. The win snapped the Fitchburg State's three-match series winning streak, as the last triumph for the hosts' came in 2008.
