Bordonaro nets game-winning marker in the 97th minute
FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 6, 2012) – Junior Carmen Bordonaro (Saugus, Mass./Saugus) lifted the Fitchburg State men's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory over MCLA in MASCAC action this evening
Bordonaro netted the game-winning marker in the 97th minute of the match, his third goal of the season, securing a loose-ball in front of the Trailblazers net and cashing in to give Fitchburg State its first conference victory of the season.
With the shutout, sophomore Aidan Hanratty (E. Bridgewater, Mass./E. Bridgewater) extended the Fitchburg State shutout streak to 273 minutes, posting four saves in the complete game effort this evening. The Falcons shutout streak dates back to their contest with Mass-Maritime, allowing just a solo score in the 24th minute of the match.
For the Trailblazers, senior Dillion Wager (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) also turned in a complete game effort, posting seven saves with just the one goal allowed.
For the contest, Fitchburg State led the way, posting a 19-12 advantage in targets, including a pair of attempts within the overtime period. Throughout the game, the Falcons were able to hold off an 8-0 Trailblazer advantage in corner kicks, while the backline went untested throughout the ten minute, extra frame.
Fitchburg State (3-7-2, 1-3-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Rivier College at 7 p.m. MCLA (4-7-0, 1-3-0 MASCAC) will host Westfield State next Saturday at 1 p.m.
