DePaula and Hanratty split goaltending duties in Falcons non-conference setback

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 25, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team hosted the Pride of Regis College this evening, suffering a tough non-conference setback, 1-0 at Elliot Field.

The Pride scored the lone goal of the match in the 34th minute as senior Angel Aguiar (Silver Springs, Md.) connected for his first goal of the season using an assist from sophomore Renato Rosas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).

Shots were limited throughout the match with Fitchburg State holding a slim 14-10 advantage. The Falcons also took advantage of their targets, posting an 7-4 margin in shots on goal, but the Pride's 7-4 advantage in corner kicks proved to be a difference maker.

In net, freshman Manny Calderon (Bristol, Conn.) scored the victory for Regis, putting forth a complete game effort for his first collegiate shutout. Calderon totaled seven saves throughout the contest, while freshman Rondinelle DePaula (Leominster, Mass.) and Aidan Hanratty (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) split the duties for Fitchburg State, totaling 45 minutes each. DePaula collected three saves despite the loss, while Hanratty went untested over the final 45 minutes of play.

Fitchburg State (4-4-1, 1-0-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts Mass-Maritime Academy at 10 a.m. Regis (2-6-1, 0-1-0 NECC) will hosts Lesley University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
