Falcons Drubbed by Lynx, 2-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Fitchburg State University was dealt a 2-1 loss at the hands of Lesley University in a non-conference men's soccer contest on Wednesday night played at Buckingham Browne & Nichols. Freshman Kevin Aldrovandi scored the lone Falcons goal in the match.

The early stages of the opening half saw back and forth play, with neither team able to gain any real scoring opportunities. Lesley would take the early 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a free kick by Erik Johansen that was deflected off of the wall. Fitchburg State evened the score at one apeice nearly two minutes later as Aldrovandi put in his second marker of the year on a free kick from 35 yards out.

The 1-1 deadlock remained going into halftime and stayed the course for the majority of the closing half, with neither team able to break the tie. With just over two minutes remaining in the match Johansen would score his second of the game and the eventual game-winner on a free kick from 20 yards out that hit the post and deflected in.

In the tightly contested defensive battle, the Falcons were only able to manage five shots total (one on net), while the Lynx held the slight edge with nine shots (six on goal). Senior keeper Aidan Hanratty collected four saves in the losing effort, while his counterpart Chase Donley collected the clean sheet win for the hosts.

The Green and Gold will return to conference play on Saturday, October 11 as they travel to Bridgewater State. First kick scheduled for noon time.
