Falcons to Host Westfield State in MASCAC Quarterfinals

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Fitchburg State University men's soccer has qualified for the MASCAC Tournament as the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Westfield State on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 pm.

In the other quarterfinal matchup Framingham State will host MCLA at 4:00pm. The winner of Framingham State/MCLA will face off with top-seeded Bridgewater State on Friday, November 7 at 7:00 pm. The other quarterfinal winner of Fitchburg State/Westfield State will travel to Massachusetts Maritime also on Friday for a 7:00 pm start.

The winners of the semifinal contests will hit the pitch on Sunday at the highest remaining seed to decide the MASCAC tournament champion and automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament.

Top-seeded Bridgewater State finished with a league-best 5-1-1 record to earn a bye into the semifinals of the tournament. Conor Murtagh currently leads the conference in both points at 20 and goals scored at nine on the season.

Earning the second seed in the tournament, Massachusetts Maritime finished the season 4-2-1 in conference play to nab the other bye into the semifinals. Goalie Joe Cohen is having a strong year for the Buccaneers with conference-bests in saves (92), save percentage (.885) and goals against average (0.76).

Fitchburg State lands the third seed after netting four conference wins this season. Simon Vikoler leads the Falcons with seven goals and an assist for 15 points. Following in the fourth seed is Framingham State who had three conference wins to end the regular season. Cory Carderio led the Rams with 19 points on eight goals and three assists.

Rounding out the tournament field is MCLA in fifth and Westfield State in sixth, respectively. The Trailblazers tallied two league wins this year. Anthony Basile is the leading scorer for the team with eight goals while adding two assists for 18 points. The Owls also finished with two conference wins this season. Dom Cavallini finished the regular season with five goals and five assists to lead Westfield State.

Last season Bridgewater State upset top-seeded Worcester State in the MASCAC Men's Soccer Tournament with a 1-0 victory to stamp their ticket to the NCAA tournament.
