Fitchburg State Shuts Down Becker, 5-0

Masley collects three points to lead Falcons to non-conference victory

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team was in action this morning, defeating the Hawks of Becker College, 5-0 in non-conference action this morning at Elliot Field, as five different Falcon players found the back of the net.

In the opening half of play, Fitchburg State took the lead just 7:58 into the contest as freshman Matthew Krikorian buried a shot inside the near post for his first collegiate tally for the 1-0 advantage.

The Green and Gold doubled its lead (2-0) at the 29:27 mark when senior defender Mauro Gimenez converted a Falcons penalty kick, firing a shot into the left side of the net for his first goal on the season.

In the second half, the Falcons upped its margin in the 70th minute of action as senior Nicholas Masley slid a pass over to junior Zachary Young, who proceeded to deposit the ball into the back of the net for the 3-0 margin.

With the score 4-0, Fitchburg State secured its first win on the season at the 83:28 mark when Masley broke free of a defender and connected on a breakaway attempt for his first marker on the year, resulting in the 5-0 final.

Throughout the game, Fitchburg State held a commanding 33-5 advantage in shots, while also holding a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. In net, sophomore Connor Smith turned away the only shot he faced, en-route to his first shutout of the season, while counterpart Devin Ramos made eight saves for Becker in the complete game effort.

Fitchburg State (1-2-0, 0-0-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts the Beavers of Babson College at 7 p.m. Becker (0-4-0, 0-0-0 NECC) will host Nichols on Tuesday for a contest starting at 4 p.m.
