Abbett and DePina propel Falcons to non-conference victory 

Leicester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team notched a 2-0 road victory over Becker College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State (2-0) got on the board in the 34th minute of action when senior midfielder Ibrahima Male (Pawtucket, R.I./CCRI) headed in a perfect cross from freshman forward Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass./Madison Park) to put the Falcons up 1-0.

The Green and Gold doubled its margin in the 66th minute as DePina scored off a pass from senior defender Thomas Mahlert (North Oxford, Mass./Quinsigamond CC), resulting in the 2-0 final.

The Falcons outshot Hawks 26-6 in the match.

Newcomer Yannick DePina tallied first collegiate goal.

Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind) posted 2 saves for his first collegiate win and shutout.
