Al-Zaibak stops four shots for Falcons in non-conference setback

Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team suffered a tough 2-0 setback to the Engineers of WPI this evening in non-conference action at Alumni Stadium.

How It Happened

WPI took the lead at the 23:45 mark of the first half as sophomore Brandon Hima (Watertown, Conn.) collected a feed from classmate Jackson Conroy (Reading, MA) and buried the ball from 25 yards out for his first collegiate tally for the 1-0 margin going into halftime.

Following the intermission, the Engineers doubled its advantage in the 72nd minute of play when freshman Kevin Krupa (Reading, MA) connected on a backwards kick by senior Anthony Vigliotta (Beverly, MA) at the top of the box for his first collegiate score, resulting in the 2-0 final.

25th meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 5-20-0 all-time when taking on the Engineers.

WPI has won the last seven contests against Fitchburg State with the Green and Gold last defeating the Engineers on October 14, 2010 by a score of 4-3.

In goal, Fitchburg State senior Alex Al-Zaibak (Hingham, Mass.) halted four shots for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while senior Jordan Finzel (Northport, N.Y.) went untested for the Engineers.

Falcons will visit Westfield State on Saturday to take on the Owls for a MASCAC bout, starting at 12 p.m. WPI will host nationally ranked Springfield College on the same day for a 7 p.m. start time.
