Brassard collects lone goal for Fitchburg State in non-conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg Stare University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Fighting Scots of Gordon College in non-conference action this evening at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Gordon grabbed the lead at the 19:17 mark of the opening frame as senior Tyler Modzeleski (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) gathered a loose ball in front of the net and deposited a shot inside the near post for his third tally on the year for the 1-0 advantage.

Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) in the 33rd minute of play when junior Nolan Brassard (Leominster, Mass.) collected a corner kick off the sophomore Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass.) and found the back of the net for his first of the season.

In the second half, the Fighting Scots regained the lead at the 72:37 mark as senior Stephen Heinz (Boxford, Mass./St. John's Prep) connected on his first score of the 2018 campaign, resulting in the 2-1 final.

Inside the Numbers

This evening's contest marks the third meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Falcons currently 1-2-0 all-time when taking on the Fighting Scots.

The two schools have split the previous two match ups with the Falcons collecting a 4-1 win in the last meeting on Sept. 1, 2009.

Gordon held a 16-5 advantage in shots, while also finishing with a 12-4 margin in corner kicks.

Modzeleski finished with a game-best two shots on frame for Gordon.

Junior Ga Massicotte (Clinton, Mass./Clinton) turned aside four shots for the Falcons in the setback, while junior Wesley Sprague (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) faced just one shot on target for the Fighting Scots in the victory.
