Javaloyes nets second tally of the season conference setback 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team suffer a tough 2-1 setback to the Lancers of Worcester State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly grabbed the lead at the 14:59 mark of the first half as junior midfielder Larry Janvier (Milton, Mass./Milton) blasted a shot on target, but Worcester keeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) corralled the ball to preserve the 0-0 stalemate going into the second half.

Following the intermission, the Falcons took a 1-0 advantage in the 53rd minute of play when freshman forward John Javaloyes (Newton, Mass./Newton South) found the back of the net for his second marker of the season.

The Lancers knotted the score (1-1) at the 71:41 mark as senior Brian Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass,/Hampshire Regional) raced up the near side line and tucked the ball inside the far post for his team-leading fourth goal on the year.

Worcester State broke the 1-1 dead lock with just over five minutes left in the contest when senior Ethan Mella (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) gathered a loose ball in front of the net and deposited the ball into the upper right corner for his third goal of the 2018 campaign.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest with mark the 41st meeting between the two squads on the soccer field with the Falcons currently 15-24-2 all-time when taking on the Lancers.

Worcester State has won the last five contests against Fitchburg State, including a 3-2 decision at Elliot Field.

Javaloyes registered a game-best three shots Fitchburg State in the contest.

In goal, sophomore Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind./Jasper) made three saves for the Falcons in the setback, while Guilmette stopped three shots for the Lancers in the victory.

Falcons will travel to Newbury College on Wednesday to take on the Nighthawks for a non-conference matchup, starting at 3:30 PM. Lancers will host the Bulldogs of Dean College on the same day for a non-conference tilt at 7:00 PM.
