Loyd Notches second of season for Fitchburg State in non-conference victory

Leicester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team defeated the Hawks of Becker College, 1-0 in non-conference action at Alumni Field this afternoon.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State netted the only goal just twelve ticks into the game when sophomore Raphael Coelho (Framingham, Mass.) from the right wing found Alexander Loyd (Kingston, Mass.) at the top of the box. The first year deposited his second goal of the season in the top left corner past the Becker keeper for the early 1-0 advantage.

Falcon netminders juniors Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind) and Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass.) combine for the shutout. Abbett made three saves in the first half, while Jaramillo had one stop in the second half.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg held a 21-9 advantage in shots, while also holding a 5-3 margin in corner kicks. Loyd and junior Yannic DePina (Boston, Mass.) each had three shots on goal for the Falcons.

Sophomore Seidon Nemeth (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) finished with one shot in the contest for Becker. 

In goal, junior Sam Majewski (Warren, Mass.) made seven saves for the Hawks in the complete game effort.

Falcons will travel to Gordon College next Saturday (9/14) to take on the Scots for a non-conference matchup starting at 6:00 PM. Becker will visit Curry College on Wednesday (9/11) for a non-conference tilt for a 6:30 PM start.
