Loyd nets pair of tallies for Fitchburg State in non-conference triumph

Wenham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Men's Soccer team got a pair of goals from freshman Alexander Loyd (Kingston, Mass.) as they defeated the Fighting Scots of Gordon College, 2-1 in non-conference action this evening from the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Basics

Records: Fitchburg State (2-1-1) | Gordon (1-2-1)

How It Happened

Gordon grabbed a 1-0 advantage at the 33:39 mark as sophomore forward Luckson Dambo (Belmont, Mass.) found the back of the net for his first tally on the season as the Fighting Scots took a 1-0 margin into the locker room.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) in the 50th minute of action when Loyd gathered a feed from junior Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass.) and fired a shot into the right side of net for his fourth goal of the year.

The Green and Gold took the lead roughly 20 seconds later with Loyd connecting on his second marker of the contest after tucking the ball inside the near post. The Fighting Scots nearly knotted the score late in the contest as junior Karsten Lusk (Tuxedo Park, N.Y.) would put a shot on frame, but Falcons keeper Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind.) was able to deny the scoring chance, resulting in the 2-1 final.
