Falcons Drop 4-1 Decision To Bison

DePina notches lone goal for Fitchburg State in non-conference setback  

Dudley, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Bison of Nichols College this afternoon in non-conference action from the Nichols Soccer Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State took the lead just 4:30 into the contest as junior Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass.) collected a feed from senior Zachary Buckland (Billerica, Mass.) and deposited a shot into the lower left corner of the net for his second goal of the season for the 1-0 edge.

Nichols knotted the score (1-1) four and half minutes later when senior Corey McEvoy (Bohemia, N.Y.) connected on his second marker on the year, firing a shot inside the far post. The Bison grabbed the lead at the 14:42 mark with senior Jacob Sargent (Bolton, Conn.) notching his sixth tally of the 2019 season off an assist from sophomore James Chasco-DiMauro (Rocky Hill, Conn.) for the 2-1 margin.

The hosts upped its advantage midway through the first half as freshman Riley Donovan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) found classmate Ryan Mangan (Braintree, Mass.), who tucked a shot into the right side of the net for his third goal of the year for the 3-1 lead.

Following the break, the Falcons threatened early in the stanza when freshman Alexander Loyd (Kingston, Mass.) fired a shot on frame, but Bison goaltender Juan Carlos De la Cruz (Stamford, Conn.) was able to turn the shot aside, resulting in the 4-1 final.
