Jaramillo stops seven shots for Fitchburg State in non-conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's soccer suffered a tough 5-1 setback to the Cardinals of Wesleyan University this evening in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Wesleyan nearly took the lead at the 26:18 mark as senior Alec Haas (Bryn Mawr, Penn.) put a shot on frame, but Falcon keeper Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass.) made a sprawling save to his left to preserve the 0-0 stalemate going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Cardinals broke the deadlock in the 50th minute of action when freshman Ben Tardiff (Concord, N.H.) connected on his first collegiate tally for the 1-0 edge. Fitchburg State answered back minutes later with junior Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass.) finding the back of the net for his third marker on the season.

Wesleyan regained the lead at the 72:18 mark as senior Trevor Devanny (Concord, N.H.) settled a corner kick off the foot of freshman Steven Perchuk (North Andover, Mass.) and fired a shot inside the near post for his first score of the 2019 campaign for the 2-1 edge.

The visitors secured the victory in the 74th minute of play when senior Mike Gallo (Rutherford, N.J.) netted his second goal on the season off an assist from newcomer Mason Davisson (Montclair, N.J.) to make the score 3-1.

The Cardinals tacked on two more scores as junior Lucas Kimball (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched his first tally of the season, while Gallo added his second score of the game, resulting in the 5-1 final.

  • This evening's contest marked just the second meeting between the two squads on the pitch with the Falcons 0-2 all-time when taking on the Cardinals
