Jaramillo makes six saves for Fitchburg State in quarterfinal round

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Men's Soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the sixth seeded Bears of Bridgewater State this evening in quarterfinal round action of the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer post-season tournament from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State threatened early in the contest with senior Zachary Buckland (Billerica, Mass.) putting a shot on frame, but Bears keeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) made the save before Bridgewater State broke a 0-0 stalemate in the 39th minute of action as senior Justin Borges (Milford, Mass.) converted a penalty kick for his sixth marker on the season for the 1-0 edge going into the break.

Following the break, Bridgewater State doubled their advantage at the 56:39 mark when freshman David Nelson (East Bridgewater, Mass.) collected a feed from junior Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) and deposited a shot into the far side of the net for his fourth tally of the year.

The Falcons best scoring opportunity of the half occurred in the 61st minute of action as freshman Alexander Loyd (Kingston, Mass.) and junior Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass.) put back-to-back shots on target, but Morgado stonewalled both chances.

Borges would tack on an insurance marker for Bridgewater State late in the stanza for his second goal of the contest off an assist from newcomer Joseph Madden, Jr. (Milford, Mass.) to make score 3-0, en-route to the 4-0 final.
