Men's Soccer Holds Off Beacons In Non-Conference Action

Kalombo notches hat trick for the Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Men's Soccer team held on to defeat the Beacons of UMass Boston, 3-2 in non-conference action this afternoon from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the 26th minute of play as junior Elijah Kalombo (Worcester, MA) deposited a shot into the lower left corner for his first collegiate score to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.

UMass Boston knotted the score four minutes later when newcomer Toby Prabhu-Schlosser Brookline, MA) laced a shot into the left side of the net for his first collegiate marker to make the score 1-1.

The Green and Gold regained the lead at the 40:53 mark with junior Prince Banangoy (Worcester, Mass.) finding a streaking Kalombo down the right side line, who blasted a shot into the upper right corner for his second tally of the contest for the 2-1 marg

Following the intermission, the Beacons retied the contest at 2-2 12 minutes into the second stanza as freshman John Aruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) received a feed from sophomore Gabriel Meireles (Everett, MA) and found the back of the net for his first career marker.

The hosts broke the 2-2 stalemate with just over nine minutes remaining in regulation when Kalombo collected a feed from freshman Anthony Oliveira-Dalicandro (Waltham, MA) and ripped a shot into the net to complete the hat trick, resulting in the 3-2 final.
