Men's Soccer Nipped By Vikings In MASCAC Opener

Oliveira-Dalicandro notches first collegiate goal for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State University Men's Soccer Team suffered a tough 2-1 setback to the Vikings of Salem State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Salem State opened the scoring two minutes into the first half as senior Aaron O'Toole (Quincy, MA) headed home a corner kick off the foot of junior Brendan Walsh (Westford, MA) and into the left side of the net for his second tally on the season for the 1-0 edge.

The Vikings doubled the lead in the 16th minute of action when senior Dylan Senna (Dartmouth, MA) blasted a free kick from 25 yards outs into the upper left corner for his second marker of the year to make the score 2-0 going into the break.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State dented the scoreboard at the 74:29 mark with sophomore Lucas Barbosa (Lowell, MA) found freshman Anthony Oliveira-Dalicandro (Waltham, MA) in front of net off a corner kick and headed the ball into the lower left corner for his first collegiate tally, resulting in the 2-1 final.
