Falcon Pair Collect Player of the Week Honors

Kimber earns NEFC Offensive Player of the Week; Kibler named MASCAC Runner of the Week

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 27, 2010) – Fitchburg State juniors Jeremy Kimber (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) and Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) were named their sports’ respective Players of the Week as announced by the conference offices Monday morning.

Kimber, a candidate for the prestigious Boston Globe Gold Helmet Award this week, collects his first weekly honor of the season after being named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Offensive Player of the Week, while Kibler, a two-time honoree, was tabbed the MASCAC’s Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

On the gridiron, Kimber carried the Fitchburg State football team to a shocking 46-44 victory over defending NEFC Champion, Maine Maritime this past Saturday, totaling four touchdowns on the day. The junior quarterback registered 290 all-purpose yards, throwing for 174 yards on 15-of-19 passing and two touchdowns (0 ints), while adding 116 yards (14.5 yds/c) and two TDs on the ground.

This season, Kimber has led the Falcons to the top of the NEFC standings with a 1-0 Bogan Division record. He has recorded a 113.42 efficiency rating, completing 40-of-65 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, the shifty QB has averaged 6.8 yards per carry on the ground, posting two touchdowns and a long run of 69 yards.


CHRIS KIBLER

On the track, Kibler led the Fitchburg State men’s cross country team to a second place finish at the Worcester City Meet hosted by Worcester State University. The third-year runner registered the top individual performance of the afternoon, earning All-Star honors with a first place finish. He topped all competitors on the day, completing the five mile course in a time of 28:30.3.

This season has been off to a great start for Kibler who has tallied a trio of top five finishes, including two, first-place efforts. Earlier in the season, Kibler was named the MASCAC Men’s Runner of the Week after earning first place at the Jim Sheehan Memorial hosted by Fitchburg State University. He posted a new school, course record of 23:53 while leading the Falcons to a first place team finish.

Both teams will be back in action again this Saturday as the Fitchburg State football team visits Coast Guard Academy at 1:30 p.m. and the men’s and women’s and cross country teams compete in All-New England Meet at Franklin Park.
