Fitchburg State Competes At Plymouth State

Sattiewhite places first overall in the high jump with an Open NE qualifying mark of 2.00m 

Plymouth, N.H. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team competed in the 2017-18 Plymouth State University Winter Classic this afternoon at the All Well North Active Living and Wellness Center.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) continued his strong start to the 2017-18 campaign after placing first overall in the high jump with an Open NE qualifying jump of 2.00 meters, while junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) posted a DIII New England qualifying time of 8.49 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles with a first place effort.

In the 400 meter, freshman Brandon Amello (Rowley, Mass.), junior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.), classmate Ryan Stopka (Rochester, Mass.) and freshman Max Charles II (Medford, Mass.) all qualified for MASCAC's after finishing second, fourth, sixth and seventh with times of 52.67, 54.13, 56.80 and 57.16 respectively.

Newcomers Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H) and Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, Mass.) placed fourth and tenth respectively with MASCAC qualifying times of 4:45.49 and 5:04.45 respectively, while freshman Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) (8th), sophomore Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.) (9th) and junior Daniel Nkansah (Worcester, Mass.) (10th) added MASCAC qualifying times of 24.23, 24.28 and 24.83 seconds respectively in the 200m.

On the track, senior Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.) and juniors Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted MASCAC qualifying times 9:06.56, 9:18.40 and 9:37.09 after placing third, fourth and ninth respectively, while Sheehy added a post-season qualifying time of 2:57.02 in the 1000 meter with a seventh place finish.

In the 60 meter dash, Monteiro (7:35), Nkansah (7.37) and Amello (8.12) all qualified for MASCAC's after placing sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Amello, Monteiro, Landress and freshman Grant Mckinlay (Sutton, Mass.) posted a first place time of 3:38.97.

In the field, Stalters and newcomer Keenan Doyle (Lancaster, Mass.) placed third and fifth in the pole vault with MASCAC qualifying marks of 3.75m and 3.30m respectively, while senior Joseph Bernardini (Lowell, Mass.) collected post season qualifying marks in the shot put (12.45m) and the weight throw (11.78m).

Sophomore Kyle Nelson (Wilmington, Mass.) notched a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the shot put (12.84m) and the weight throw (10.15m), while junior Brendan Courtney (North Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the top effort for Fitchburg State with a pair of post-season qualifying tosses in the shot put (12.44m) and in the weight throw (10.85m).

The Fitchburg State men's track and field team is off until after the semester break when it competes in the 2017-18 Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday, January 6th with start time of 10:00 A.M.
