Fitchburg State Excels At Reggie Poyau Invitational

Sattiewhite earns top honors in the high jump with Open New England qualifying mark of 2.00 meters 

Waltham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team placed third at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational with a total of 73 points this afternoon at the Gorman Sports and Convocation Center on the campus of Brandeis University.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) continued his solid 2017-18 indoor season after earning top honors in the high jump with an Open New England qualifying mark of 2.00 meters, while freshman Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.)  turned in a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.88 meter in the high jump with a second place finish in the event.

Junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.24 seconds, while in the mile, senior Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) (4:31.74), junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) (4:40.31) and newcomer Anthony Ortwein (Fitchburg, Mass.) 5:03.25) placed fifth, seventh and 13th to qualify for MASCAC's.

In the 3000 meter, sophomore Brandon DiGregorio (Somerville, Mass.) and senior Mark Tonelli (Ayer, Mass.) notched MASCAC qualifying times of 10:21.12 and 9:58.47 respectively, while freshman Brandon Amello (Rowley, Mass.) (51.80) and junior Ryan Stopka (Rochester, Mass.) (56.70) placed second and 11th respectively in the 400 meter to also qualify for MASCAC's.

In the 800, senior Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.), junior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.), Amaral and Darrigo finished fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth with post-season qualifying times of 2:02.91, 2:07.77, 2:08.21 and 2:11.74 respectively, while freshman Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) and junior Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass.) registered MASCAC qualifying times of 16:17.79 and 17:55.51 after placing second and third in the 5,000 meter.

Sophomore Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.), newcomer Nathaniel Rogers (Foxboro, Mass.) and senior Andrew Mooney (Framingham, Mass.) turned in MASCAC qualifying times of 6.99 seconds, 7.05 seconds and 7.36 seconds respectively in the 55 meter dash, while in the 200 meter, Amello, Joseph and freshman Max Charles II (Medford, Mass.) placed added post-season qualifying times of 23.64 seconds, 24.97 seconds and 25.52 seconds.

In the field, senior Joseph Bernardini (Lowell, Mass.) notched MASCAC qualifying tosses of 12.87m (5th) in the shot put and 10.44m in the weight throw (7th), while sophomore Kyle Nelson (Wilmington, Mass.) collected a pair of post-season qualifying marks in the shot put (12.74m) and the weight throw (10.23m) after placing sixth and ninth respectively.

Junior Brendan Courtney (North Attleboro, Mass.) also turned in a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the weight throw (10.91m) (6th) and the shot put (12.60m) (8th), while in the pole vault, freshman Keenan Doyle (Lancaster, Mass.) (3rd) and Stalters (4th) added post-season qualifying vaults of 3.50 meters each to round out the top efforts for the Falcons on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women's track and field team returns to action next weekend as it completes in the 2017-18 Greater Boston Track Club Invite, hosted by Harvard University on Sunday for a meet starting at 9:00 A.M.
