Fitchburg State Places Fourth At MASCAC Championships

Hastings captures MASCAC crown in mile with DIII NE qualifying time of 4:23.45 

Providence, R.I. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team placed fourth overall at the 2018 MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a total of 69 points at the Providence Career and Technical High School this afternoon.

Senior Jake Hastings (Philipston, Mass.) took home the MASCAC Championship in the mile with a DIII New England qualifying time of 4:23.45, while also qualifying for the DIII NE Championships in the 1000 meter after finishing fourth in the event with a time of 2:36.44.

Senior Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) claimed top honors in the 3000 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 8:32.28, while junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) claimed the MASCAC championship in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 8.66 seconds.

In the high jump, senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) finished second with an Open New England qualifying mark of 1.99 meters, while freshman Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) placed sixth in the event with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.88 meters.

Newcomer Brandon Amello (Rowley, Mass.) finished sixth in the 200 meter (23.27) and sixth in the 400 meter (52.44), while in the 5000 meter, freshman Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) and junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed fifth and ninth with times of 16:13.83 and 16:20.61 respectively.

In the 600 meter, junior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) posted a fifth place time of 1:26.47, while freshman James Casale (Wakefield, Mass.) and classmate Andrew Hill (Templeton, Mass.) turned in times of 2:16.47 and 2:20.11 after finishing seventh and eighth respectively in the 800 meter.

In the field, senior Joseph Bernardini (Lowell, Mass.) placed tenth in the shot put (12.22m) and 11th in the weight throw (11.81m), while newcomer Keenan Doyle (Lancaster, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon performances on the day with a third place vault of 3.95 meters in the pole vault.

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team returns to action next weekend as it completes in the 2018 DIII New England Championships, hosted by Springfield College on Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 A.M.
