Stalters, Landress and McWhinnie-Armstead collect top four efforts for the Green and Gold

Roxbury, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team opened their 2018-19 season this afternoon after competing in the 2018 UMass Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

How It Happened

Senior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) paced the Falcons, placing fourth overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 8.78 seconds, while sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) finished third in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.90 meters.

In the 5000 meter, juniors Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished 15th and 20th with MASCAC qualifying  times of 16:05.23 and 16:14.22 respectively, while senior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) turned in a second place time of 1:08.11 in the 500 meter to qualify for MASCAC's

The 4x400 meter relay team of Landress, freshman Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.), classmate Michael Masterson (Pepperell, Mass.) and sophomore Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) posted a time of 3:47.10 with a 15th place finish, while in the 800m, Sachetta, senior Ryan Stopka (Rochester, Mass.) and junior Samuel Kupperstein (Lincoln, Mass.) turned in post-season qualifying times of 2:06.29, 2:14.04 and 2:23.95 respectively.

In the field, newcomer Brandon McNeil (Dartmouth, Mass.) posted a ninth place effort of 6.30 meters in the long jump, while Armstead (12.68m) and McNeil (12.44) placed sixth and tenth respectively in the triple jump to qualify for MASCAC's.

Sophomore Andrew Hill (Templeton, Mass.) registered a post-season qualifying time of 3:03.20 in the 1000 meter with an 18th place finish, while senior Brandan Courtney (North Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the top efforts for the Green and Gold with a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the weight throw (11.74m) and the shot put (12.43m).
